About Our Doctor

John Douglas, D.O.

Orthopaedic Surgeon

John A. Douglas, DO, is an orthopaedic surgeon. This means he fixes joints, muscles, ligaments, and bones. Dr. Douglas chose his specialty because he has enjoyed fitting things together ever since junior high woodshop. Fortunately, he later discovered that people are more interesting to work with than lumber.

Raised just outside Washington D.C. in Suitland, Maryland, he participated in high school football and basketball as well as shop class. He graduated from Brigham Young University and attended medical school at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. He received advanced orthopaedic surgical training at the five hospitals of the Peninsula Hospital Consortium in New York City and Long Island including North Shore University Hospital, ranked as the number 1 hospital in America by AARP’s Modern Maturity magazine. He was trained by over 75 different orthopaedic attending physicians and graduates from institutions such as the Hospital for Special Surgery, Hospital for Joint Diseases, NYU, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Dr. Douglas has published in the journal of Arthroscopy and is the author of a chapter titled ‘Meniscal Injuries’ in the book volume Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, part of a new seven volume series in Orthopaedic Surgery Essentials, published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins in 2006. In addition to publications he has also taught as an associate master instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, instructing others using cadavers on advanced arthroscopic knee techniques including ACL, PCL and posterior lateral corner reconstruction, as well as meniscal repair techniques and cartilage transplant techniques. Dr. Douglas does fracture care of all ages and he specializes in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery as well as total joint replacement surgery using up to date computer assisted navigational equipment. This new technology has made it possible for Dr. Douglas to navigate joint replacement procedures with a level of accuracy so precise it has improved the results of joint replacement surgery. Similar to the navigation technology used in cars, orthopaedic navigation is similar to a global positioning system (GPS) in the OR. It allows Dr. Douglas and his physician assistant to work more efficiently, using less invasive techniques and helps align implants to the patient’s unique male or female anatomy with superior results compared to traditional joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Douglas is married to his beautiful wife Lauren and they have 4 children including Joseph, Benjamin, and twins Brenly and Joshua.
